Will the Samsung 970 Evo SSD work with the XPS 8700?
03-02-2019 05:23 AM The Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe will not work. According to the XPS 8700 specs it supports mSATA (mini-SATA) and the Samsung is NVMe. You can use a 2.5″ SSD like the MX500 but like you said you will need a mounting bracket and a SATA cable.

M.2 and U.2 can utilize 4 PCIe lanes (at PCIe 3.0 speeds). All the PCIe expansion slots in the XPS 8700 are electrically x1 (only hooked up for a single lane), even the one that is physically x4 .
