Is a graph tech nut good?

They work, they’re very good nuts. The Tusq XL and the black Tusq XL are the self-lubricating ones, their other nut products are just synthetic bone. Self lubricating isn’t quite right, they’re made of graphite, which lets the strings slide similar to putting graphite from a pencil in the slots.

What are Graph Tech Nuts made of?

TUSQ is made from 100% organic polymers, contains no oil or animal by-products and is consistent from piece to piece, and within each piece.

Is TUSQ saddle better than bone?

Bone saddles almost always will sound better than the inexpensive plastic saddles used in less expensive guitars. However, with Tusq saddles, bone is not necessarily a better tone but is different. Generally speaking, the bone will produce a warmer and fuller tone, whereas Tusq will produce a brighter and cleaner tone.

When should I replace my guitar nut?

Why & When Should You Replace or Adjust the Nut?

  2. The nut is too low (the string grooves are too deep)
  3. The string grooves in the nut are too wide.

  5. The guitar doesn’t sound so good anymore (often a plastic nut)

How do you sand down a nut?

To do that, use a 240 to 400 grits sandpaper, put it on your bench or any flat surface and sand along that. Nicole uses a sanding block for this step. Try and take down the thickness of the nut just enough so that it will fit inside of the slot you just cleaned. Make sure it fits snugly, but not tight.

What is a TUSQ?

Tusq saddles and nuts are actually made from an extremely high-quality polymer, formed by high levels of heat and pressure, which allows them to transfer string energy and sustain more consistently and efficiently. They are now used in instruments from Taylor, Gibson, Tacoma, and many other manufacturers.
