Is Nature-Throid the same as WP thyroid?
Many of our patients are just becoming aware of this, but there is a manufacturing issue with the production of two of our most prescribed thyroid medications – Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid® (these are manufactured in the same facility).
Which natural thyroid medication is best?
The most pure form of a natural thyroid medication is WP Thyroid used to be called Westhroid Pure. WP Thyroid is gluten and corn free with no artificial colors and only contains three other ingredients inulin (from chicory root), medium chain triglycerides and Lactose Monohydrate.
Why is WP thyroid not available?
Reason for the Shortage In September 2020, RLC Labs recalled all lots of Nature-Throid and WP Thyroid because certain lots were found to contain less levothyroxine than the labeled amount.
Is Nature-Throid being discontinued?
In August 2020, RLC Labs made the decision to recall all unexpired lots of Nature Throid and WP Thyroid. The recall extended to 483 lot numbers, dating back to 2017. Currently, these products are not in production and the company does not have an expected time when production will restart – if it will restart at all.
Does WP thyroid cause weight gain?

The researchers report that 49% of the patients preferred desiccated thyroid extract, 19% preferred levothyroxine and 23% had no preference. Desiccated thyroid extract use was also associated with more weight loss. There was no difference in the psychometric testing or in any symptoms.

Why is Armour Thyroid not FDA approved?
It comes from pigs and is a mix of both thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). There are few clinical trials on Armour Thyroid, meaning it has not been studied well. Additionally, and importantly, the FDA has not approved it for use.
How many MCG of T4 and T3 are in WP thyroid?

If you have a corn allergy or sensitivity then it probably is best to go with Nature-Throid or WP Thyroid, whereas if you have a moderate or severe lactose intolerance and have no problem with corn then Armour might be a better option.
