What happens if an arrow is too stiff?
If the arrow’s spine is too weak or too stiff, the arrow will not correct itself as soon as it should while in flight. If that arrow is weak and continues to flex (has a low spine rating), it’s going to veer off target. Likewise, if the arrow is unforgivingly stiff, it also won’t follow the path the archer intends.
Can an Arrows be too stiff in a compound bow?
Yes – you can be too stiff. You’ll notice that they will tend to fly right (RH bow) or left for a LH bow.
How tight should my arrow groups be?
How tight should your arrow groups be? Your arrow groups should be AT MOST 6″ over 30 yards to bring down an average white-tailed deer.
Is it better to shoot a stiffer arrow?
The stiffer the arrow, the less the bend. The less the bend, the more energy that goes into forward speed and the less drag on the arrow. When you think about it, logic seems to indicate that for a compound bow, using a release aid and a properly set up rest, the stiffer the arrow, the better.
Are stiffer arrows more forgiving?
Why? Weak arrows flex much more and take longer to recover in flight, which causes instability and finicky shooting. Slightly stiffer arrows will perform much better.
What arrow spine is stiffer?
Arrow manufacturers offer a spine chart that details their arrows’ stiffness. Typically, the higher the number, the weaker the spine. Common spine ratings are 300, 400, 500 and 600, with 300-spine arrows being the stiffest.
What is a good arrow group at 20 yards?
If you are shooting an “archery minute of angle” with your bow when practicing under perfect conditions, then expect your groups to open to around 10 inches in the real world of hunting at 20 yards.
What is a good group at 60 yards?
I would agree with the 6 inch group at 60 yds as a good measure for a better than average archer. For me, after a full practice session at 60 yds, the 40 yard shot seems a lot easier. I shoot for groups in all my practice, usually three arrow groups.
How long should my arrows be with a 28 inch draw?
around 27 inches
If you’re a 28-inch draw length and want an arrow that ends at the front of the riser, your arrow length would be around 27 inches. However, your arrow length can be longer if you need to weaken the spine of your arrow. For safety reasons, your arrows shouldn’t be cut too short.
