Do high quality XLR cables make a difference?
In my experience, the answer is no. If you’re buying cables for a normal home studio setup, even if some of your gear is really high-end, it’s very unlikely that you’re going to be able to hear any difference at all.
Are some XLR cables better than others?
silver and gold being the most preferred. Some people say silver is better, because it has a higher conductivity than gold (when clean).
Does quality of XLR cable matter?
As long as it’s properly made and the cable is properly shielded, the actual cable shouldn’t affect sound quality. However, build quality can affect durability.
Are XLR cables durable?
The Gold Studio XLR cable has a 4-conductor cable rather than the standard 2. They’re definitely the best microphone cables for recording on this list. Because they’re so thick due to the cables having 4 conductors, this makes them extremely durable for the toughest handling.
Are balanced XLR cables worth it?
XLR cables are usually balanced (3 pin) and RCA cables are unbalanced (1 pin). The main benefit of balanced cables is their ability to transfer sound signals over much longer runs/distances without signal loss, or interference. Balanced cables have a very low signal to noise ratio which helps over longer cable lengths.
How important is XLR cable quality?
As long as it’s properly made and the cable is properly shielded, the actual cable shouldn’t affect sound quality. However, build quality can affect durability. I prefer Neutrik X or XX connectors, and Canare or Mogami cable.
Are XLR cables fragile?
Yes, they do wear out eventually. As pointed out already, the life time depends greatly on use and quality. Even with a cable that seemingly works sound quality may get drastically reduced. See below.
