A CRI of 100 shows the true colors of the object. Incandescent and halogen light sources have a CRI of 100. Typically, light sources with a CRI of 80 to 90 are regarded as good and those with a CRI of 90+ are excellent! The general rule is: The higher the CRI, the better the color rendering capacity.
Is 90 CRI good?
As a rule, a CRI of 90 or more is considered high and anything below 80 is considered mid-range to low. If color quality is important, seriously consider something in the 90s.
Is CRI important for growing?
Just because a light source has a high CRI score does not mean it is better for growing plants, however. A light source can have an excellent CRI but lack wavelengths of light that plants most-efficiently use for photosynthesis. This makes CRI fairly meaningless for evaluating how well a light will grow plants.
How do I find my color rendering index?
So to test the CRI, you set up a number of color patches with precisely known colors on them. You then measure the color of these patches under the light source using a device called a spectrophotometer, which measures the color of the light being reflected from it.
