What is a Patency Capsule Test? You have been referred for a Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy. This is a test that allows the inside of your small bowel (intestine) to be examined. We have to check if this capsule can pass safely through your intestine by testing a ‘practice’ or dummy capsule of equivalent size.

What is the PillCam ® test?

The Pillcam ® is a capsule you will swallow that contains a miniature video camera. When you arrive the nurse will explain what will be done before, during and after the Agile Patency Capsule test. If you have any questions, please ask. You will swallow the Agile Patency Capsule with a glass of water.

What should I do if I take the agile patency capsule?

Return to Radiology 24 hours after you ingest the Agile Patency Capsule to get an abdominal X-ray. If you develop unexplained nausea, abdominal pain or vomiting, contact MIDC East and your doctor right away. The test takes about 24 hours.
