What kind of fabric is Coutil?

Coutil is a strong cotton fabric made with a twill weave. It’s often confused with duck, or canvas, but duck is basket-weave and canvas is a balanced plain-weave. Coutil is usually made in solid black or white.

If you wash the coutil you will wash out all the size, and the coutil will not be stiff and firm as it should be and it’s the characteristics of firm coutil which make it such a pleasure to use for making corsets.
