What kind of light does IPL use?

Xenon arc flashlamps, the primary lamp type used in IPLs, do produce wavelengths shorter than 400 nm but through the use of doped flashlamp glass envelopes, wavelengths below 360–380 nm are prevented from exiting the flashlamp wall.

Does IPL use UV light?

UV wavelengths are usually removed from the IPL spectrum, so the light does no damage to the outer layer of skin and does not increase the risk of cancer.

What does IPL light do?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, aka photofacial, is a way to improve the color and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. You may notice it mostly on your face, neck, hands, or chest.
