Is the Stihl ms290 a pro saw?
It is a similar pro-style saw from Stihl. It comes with a higher price tag but if you plan on using it for another 10 years or so it may be well worth it. I am still asking myself if I should not have sprung for the 261 instead of the 290 but was too cheap at that time. Two adorable little helpers.
Can I put a bigger bar on my Stihl chainsaw?
Stihl’s electric saws come in three different sizes: the MSE 140 can handle a bar between 12 and 16 inches, the MSE 180 can take a bigger 18-inch bar, and the MSE 220 takes a bar between 16 and 20 inches.
Can you put a 20 inch bar on a MS290?
I do fine on my 290 with a 20″ bar, skip chain. It might do 24″ in softwood with that chain, but I think 20″ is about all it wants.
How much did a Stihl MS290 cost new?
New they start out at roughly $389 for 18″ Bar.
What chain does a Stihl MS290 use?

In the chainsaw’s owner’s manual, Stihl recommends using Stihl’s low kickback chain with a 0.325-inch pitch and the Rapid-Super C3 or Rapid-Micro C3 chain with a 3/8-inch pitch.
