Why is Melolin dressing important?
Melolin Wound Dressing has been developed to dress minor wounds, cuts and abrasions, providing a protective barrier against bacteria and further infection. This dressing can also be used as a primary contact layer to dress slightly deeper wounds, so long as it is supported by a second, more absorbent dressing.
How do you apply Melolin?
Application
- Wash hands before and after treating wound. Gently clean wound and surrounding skin.
- Peel open packet to reveal MELOLIN◊, placing shiny side to the wound.
- MELOLIN◊ can be secured in place with OPSITE◊ FLEXIGRID◊ or a tape or bandage.
Does Melolin stick to wounds?
Melolin has a relatively low absorbent capacity and is therefore intended for use on lightly exuding wounds. In these situations, a single dressing may simply be secured in position with surgical tape.
Can you cut Melolin?
Melolin can be cut to shape and held in place with a bandage or tape. Place the shiny side on the wound and change daily.
Why dressings may be left in place for multiple days?
The dressings can be left in place for several days, but usually leak if exudate builds up. Removal is easier if the film is stretched before being pulled off. Dressings such as Comfeel and Duoderm are adhesive, water and gas impermeable membranes. When the inner layer comes into contact with exudate, it forms a gel.
What is Melolin dressing made of?
Melolin* consists of a highly absorbent cotton and acrylic fibre pad which is heat bonded on one side to a very thin perforated polyester film. The film side of the dressing is placed next to the wound.
