Where do you park for Pen y Fan?

You can park in the Cwm Gwdi car park north of Pen y Fan and just south of the town Brecon. This route approaches Pen y Fan from the north and is a few miles longer than that from Pont ar Daf.

How long is the walk to Pen y Fan?

The circular walk up Pen y Fan takes around two and a half hours to complete in total. This is a moderate but reasonably strenuous walk of around four miles. The time it takes to reach the summit depends on your level of fitness, and the pace you want to go at.

Can you climb Pen y Fan in trainers?

Yes it can, quite easily. As long as they are decent trainers and the weather is good.

Is Pen y Fan car park free?

Both car parks for Pen Y Fan are free however I did see articles online which say they might start charging soon.

Is Pen y Fan OK for children?

The beauty of Pen y Fan is that it’s easy to get to – just 40 minutes from Cardiff – and it’s relatively easy when you get there. A four-mile (6.4km) circular walk heads up from the car park, and I’ve done the whole thing with children as young as six, in less than three hours, including a picnic stop at the top.

Is Pen y Fan safe for children?

We climbed Pen y fan with kids, the youngest being 7, none of them had climbed a mountain before and pen y fan is ideal with an easy and safe path to follow. They really enjoyed the climb and had a great sense of achievement when they got to the summit!

Can you cycle up Pen y Fan?

The Brecon Beacons continues to be one of my favourite spots for biking. How difficult is the Pen y Fan walk?

I would say that walking Pen y Fan from the Nant Cwm Llwch car park is a moderately challenging walk for those in reasonable physical condition. It is undoubtedly more demanding that the more popular route from the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre on the A470. Firstly, this walk starts from a lower valley elevation, so the climb is longer.
