Today, Johannes von Trapp, 76, the eldest son of Maria and Baron Georg Johannes von Trapp, owns and operates the Trapp Family Lodge near Stowe, Vermont. The family has lived on the property since 1942 when they bought a 300-acre farm in the mountains.

Did Werner von Trapp serve in the military?
Von Trapp Family Biography. Werner joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in Europe with the ski troops as part of the 10th Mountain Division. After the war, he returned home to the family farm in Stowe, Vermont and resumed touring with the family choir. He married Erika Klambauer in 1948 and the two has six children.
