Why did Chris Barrie leave series7?
Why does this series lack continuity? Rimmer wanted to leave the show for most of Series 7, so he was replaced by Kochanski. Due to the original Kochanski not being a good enough actor (apparently) she was recast. For some reason when Red Dwarf reappears Hollie was played by Norman Lovett.
What is the Brittas Empire about?
The Brittas Empire is a slightly surrealist look at proud English leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas, and his utter failure to manage the fictional Whitbury Newtown Leisure Centre. Brittas is an obsessive bureaucrat and a stickler for rules and procedures, no matter what the situation, resulting in catastrophes on a regular basis.
What happened in the last series of Brittas?
In the last series, Brittas rigs up a computer system to control every aspect of the centre, which over-complicates even the simple task of distributing floats by the swimming pools, and results in someone drowning. Brittas is also accident-prone, and will make careless mistakes with fatal consequences.
What happened to Peter Barrie after Brittas?
His next big role after Brittas was as another titular sitcom character, Gary Prince, in A Prince Among Men (1997-98), which was about an insufferable former football star turned business entrepreneur. Barrie returned as Arnold Rimmer in Red Dwarf series 12 last year.
Why did they kill off Brittas in line of duty?
The series’ writers, Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen, decided to make series five the final series, thus Brittas was ‘killed’ by a falling water tank (only to be brought back to life in bizarre circumstances). However, Chris Barrie returned to play Brittas for a further two series, as the BBC wanted it to continue.
