Will there be a 2021 WGI season?
Today WGI Sports of the Arts is announcing the cancellation of in-person events for the 2021 season. We had hoped to use this upcoming season as a beacon of healing after the abrupt and challenging end to the 2020 season.
What is the age limit for WGI?
Independent Open Class color guards from the United States may utilize performers not over 23 years of age as of 12:01 a.m. on April 1st of any given year. Independent World Class Color guards may compete with performers of any age. Each color guard appearing in a WGI contest shall be prepared to show proof of age.
How many people go to WGI?
More than 160,000 spectators enjoy the activities at WGI Regionals and World Championships annually. More than 600 local competitions are sponsored, yielding an additional 100,000 spectators. Many of the percussion companies are now developing instruments specifically for the indoor activity.

WGI was founded in San Francisco, California in 1977, as a competitive vehicle for the performing arts. The first division was the Color Guard division.
Why color guard is not a sport?
Band and color guard do not require a large amount of physical ability. The physical activity involved is so minimal that training for band and color guard would be unpractical. For an activity to be considered a true sport there must be physical exertion involved.
